Live Project for HND Visual Communication: New Media Yr 2
The following Live project delivered by City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) has tasked the HND Visual Communication: New Media students to create an E-learning training package in line with the housing specific competencies as set out in the National Standards for Information and Advice Providers. This will allow for easy access to relevant, up to date training for new and existing staff.
The CEC previously bought in a CD Rom based training package to provide training on housing advice and related subjects to staff. This package was commissioned by the Scottish Government as part of its assistance to Local Authorities to achieve accreditation to the National Standards for Advice and Information Providers. The training package was aimed at staff that provided basic housing advice and signposting but was not cost effective and did not fully address training need.
This was because it was entirely text based, did not always reflect housing issues in Edinburgh and its format presented monitoring and evaluation problems.
The project is a joint venture between The Housing Advice and Information Strategy Team (HAIST) and staff and students of
Telford College. While HAIST will provide the content, Telford College will build the E-learning training package. This will be done during the October 2009 – January 2010 term, as such approval is required prior to the start of term.
The project will encourage the good use of core skills……………..
Core Skills are the essential skills that help people through their education, training, work and life. They are often built into National Units and National Courses, so candidates don’t have to sit additional assessments, but they can also be studied as Units in their own right. The Core Skills are:
Communication
- Numeracy
- Problem Solving
- Information Technology
- Working with Others
An update of the project will be posted to the Blog.
