HND TV student celebrates birthday with film screening

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

AN amateur film-maker has celebrated his birthday by having his film shown at the Filmhouse.

Telford College student Garry Fraser hit 30 on the day Tolerance film was seen at the cinema.

And the Muirhouse man admitted it was also the first time he had seen the production in its final form. He said: “Although I like it, even now there are some things I’d like to have changed – it could have been more hard-hitting.”

Despite his modesty, the likes of Channel 4 and reformed Edinburgh punk band the Rezillos have already sounded him out for future projects.

Mr Fraser said he wanted to show global audiences across the world what life is like in places such as Royston and Muirhouse.

He added: “That’s what life for me was like back then. Irvine Welsh had to research his material for Trainspotting, but all I have to do is remember what my life was like before I made films.

“I left school after primary six, so I’d never really had any education prior to coming to Telford.”
