I met with Jane Dennyson - Waterfront Edinburgh LTD | Communications Manager on the 20 March 2008 at the Edinburgh’s Telford College.
We discussed the opportunity for all Illustration and Graphic Design students to enter a competition set by Waterfront Edinburgh LTD.
Here’s the background to the competition/project………………..
Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd owns 120 acres of land at Granton, Edinburgh. As part of the 15 year major regeneration project currently taking place along Edinburgh’s waterfront, Waterfront Edinburgh is selling plots of land for commercial, residential, leisure and cultural development. Waterfront Edinburgh (Management) Limited (WEML) is a new company. It has been set up to manage the publicly shared assets and amenities on Waterfront Edinburgh’s site. These range from the park land and water features through to shared services and the common areas within buildings. So in short, WEML will be responsible for security, repairs, landscaping and ensuring all areas are kept tidy and litter free. WEML will play a front line role on the development and as such should be seen as high profile. There will be a lot of involvement with local residents and tenants. As part of the factoring service we will have an informative Web site where current news will be displayed. There will also be an office on site where people can speak to employees and register works required, complaints, etc. Brochures will also be available with regular updates of developments.
WEML requires a logo and corporate identity. This will be used on all collateral produced by the company as well as on the website, flags on site, uniforms & signage.
More information will follow on the 07 April 2008.

Another successful bid by the Creative Arts International team -
As part of the Prime Ministers Initiative for International Education - funding is available to develop the following innovative project:
Blogging and Buddying to give information to International Students
The aim of this project is to create 2 blogs which will tell international students what it is like week by week studying at Edinburgh’s Telford College and living in Edinburgh. The blogs will also include information about activities arranged for international students to help adapt to the culture and world of work in the UK.
The blogs will form an innovative method of communicating pre-application for students wishing to fiund out about the college and Edinburgh.
The two international students (Lindani Akambakamba and John Ssebanakitta) will work with two home students (Stacey Armit and Michael Hardie) to accomplish this.
Good luck to you all.

Edinburgh’s Telford College require identity managed network portals to be designed, built, tested and implemented by 31 July 2008 for 1) College staff and 2) College students. As a parallel exercise the College ICT and CIS Services are implementing an identity management system which will provide staff, students and other stakeholders with secure single sign-on access to authorised College networked resources and applications. The College proposes employing students from the successful portals development team(s) over the summer of 2008 to continue development and implementation of the student and staff portals selected. Students would work with our in-house System Developers in developing the portals from prototype to live applications, creating a portals development toolkit and supporting sufficient staff training for the College to manage and develop the applications independently from August 2008 onwards.
Project deliverables Student and staff network portals
We require a working prototype staff portal and a working prototype student portal for initial review and evaluation by March 2008. Following evaluation, the College will invite the successful student project team(s) to continue technical development and implementation of the staff and student portals and systematically document the technical infrastructure. The portals and technical documentation will remain the property of the College post-project.
Good luck…..to the students involved.
